Goal 2

Professor Jeanne E. Pemberton leads CISSEM’s research Goal 2 assisted by co-lead Professor S. Scott Saavedra. Research in Goal 2 will: “Develop new methodologies for the characterization of the atomic and molecular composition of interfaces, and new approaches for the nanoscale characterization of electrical and electrochemical properties of these interfaces.” For Years 4 and 5, the scientific questions being pursued by CISSEM relevant to Goal 2 are:

  • How is the selectivity and efficiency of charge collection across organic semiconductor/metal oxide contact or interlayer interfaces controlled by the electronic properties of the contact or interlayer materials and organic semiconductor?
  • How are the electronic properties of organic semiconductor/metal oxide contact or interlayer interfaces controlled by the surface coverage, bonding, orientation, redox functionality, and/or dipolar nature of surface or interface modifiers?
